 Work Terms in England

 

Positions are available in the Hospitality and Catering industry. Staff for hotels, ranging from 3 to 5 Star, small and large hotels all over Britain.  This program specializes in finding employment in the chef, hotel, reception, switchboard, catering, pub/bartender, waiter/waitress, and removals industries.  Work placements often begin on a Monday, so applicants must arrive in UK destination area beforehand.  Applicants must be between the ages of 18-30 (due to government visa restrictions).  Minimum length of stay: usually for one year.

Clients are seeking staff for the following positions:

            Front of the House: Receptionist, Reservations, Shift Leaders, Head Receptionist

            Food and Beverage: Waiting Staff, Bar Staff, Restaurant Supervisors

            Chefs: Trainee Chefs, Commis Chefs, Chef de Partie, Sous Chefs, Head Chefs, Pastry Chefs

            Conference & Banqueting: C&B Porters, Supervisors, C&B coordinators, Banqueting Staff

            Housekeeping: Duty Housekeepers, Assistant Housekeepers, Chambermaids

            Management: Various positions

Please read our General Information in which we will give you more details about particular positions and how much you can expect to earn. Staff, are placed in hotels all year round. Most hotels prefer their staff to stay for a minimum of 6-12 months.

General Information

 Do I Need to Be Qualified?

For some positions you need to be, but or some positions you will be given training.

Do I Need to Pay My Own Traveling to Britain?

Yes. Some Employers will meet you at your point of arrival or we will give you detailed instructions how to find the place of your employment or some other convenient point where you can be collected.

Do I Have Medical Treatment While Working in Britain?

Yes. You should register yourself with a local doctor. Treatment is normally provided under National Health Service, except for small charge for prescription. You will need to present your passport or National Insurance Number.

 How Much Can I Earn Working In the Hotel or Restaurant?

Your salary will depend on the job you are offered. Here is a guide to what jobs are on offer and approximately what you can expect to earn:

 

A Guideline to salaries offered

 These salaries are only a guideline and will vary from each hotel or restaurant. Below see some available positions: some employers willing to train.

 * Translations into Canadian dollars given below are approximate.

 

Chef                                       Salaries determined by qualifications

Switchboard                         UK £5.15 per hour -             CAN $500.00 per week. It is possible to work overtime

Barman                                 UK £4.79 per hour -             CAN $ 470.00 per week. It is possible to work overtime

Reception                                                                      CAN $ 570.00 per week. It is possible to work overtime

Waitress/ Waiter                UK £4,79 hourly -                 CAN $470.00 per week. It is possible to work overtime

 

Please Note that these salaries are GROSS and tax and National Insurance will be deducted. 

In most cases some meals will be offered free of charge during working hours. This will be arranged on each separate job offer.

Cost of accommodation

The accommodation arranged is usually provided through the employer; further information available upon individual job offer.

What About My Holidays?

It depends from employer to employer how much holiday you can take and it also depends on your position in the company. The number of days holiday per year will be stated in the Job Offer.

Once an Employer is interested in you, we will contact you with the job description from the particular company. If you are interested you will be put in touch with potential employer. You have the choice to accept or decline any position you wish. If you are both in agreement you will be sent a Job Offer in writing. We will only need you to confirm your date and place of arrival. PLEASE do not make any travel arrangements before you receive a Job Offer!
