Au Pair in England

We welcome you the opportunity to experience the wonderful historical and cultural sights of England, while enjoying the hospitality and comforts of a British host family. The main areas of placement are London and surrounding areas (Buckinghamshire, Cambridge, Kent, Oxford, Surrey, etc). The majority of families live in the busy residential suburbs of our cities and towns, some are situated in more rural areas where there is limited public transport. You will of course have the opportunity to speak with the prospective family on the telephone, to discuss their position.

What do British families expect?

Au pairs are normally aged between 18-30 years old, and should have good English-speaking skills. They should have some experience in child care, and should be a responsible young adult of good character, who is serious about her commitment and responsibility to her host family. The families always prefer the au pair to stay between 6 - 12 months, as this gives some stability to the children. Summer terms are also available. Although it is expensive to host an au pair, it provides the family with the added interest of learning about another culture and possibly another language.

What can you achieve from your stay in Britain?

By living and working with a British host family, you have the opportunity of learning about the unique culture, and while caring for the host children, you can gain valuable experience in the art of child care.

Wherever you live, there will be a large shopping centre within easy reach. There are excellent shopping malls across the UK, together with an enormous variety of individual shops. You can also visit the antique fairs, craft markets, local art exhibitions, historical sites, gardens, castles and abbeys.... the choice is endless. As well there is a wide variety of activities to choose from with many leisure, health and fitness clubs. Ask your host family for details of the sports centre nearest to your home. If you enjoy horseback riding, there are sure to be stables nearby as well.

Welcome to Britain!

On arrival in the UK, wherever possible you will be sent a list of other au pairs living in or near the area where you are placed. Please contact these au pairs, as they too will be pleased to make new friends.
