Au Pair in Denmark

What are the Au Pair Duties?

An Au Pair will be expected to work approximately 30 hours per week. Duties consist of childcare and general housework. In the evenings, she may be needed to baby-sit for the family (three times a week maximum) or help out with dinner.

What are the Benefits?

Three options available:

Au Pair: Pocket money starting at 70 Euros per week.

Au Pair Plus : is similar to the Au Pair but can offer more pocket money per week. The au pair would work 35 hours per week, and spend more time with the children.

Mother’s Help: work 30 hours per week, and earn more per week (depending on age and experience).

bulletThe family will provide the au pair with her own private room and all meals.
bulletThe au pair is entitled to at least one and half day off per week, and one paid week of holiday every 6 months.
bulletThe au pair will be provided with an updated list of other au pairs placed in Denmark, so that there should be good possibilities to make friends.
bullet Every au pair is offered the possibility to take language lessons, and education in Denmark is free of charge. The host family will help to find out which options there are in the area.
bullet· The au pair can specify on her application whether she wants a position in an urban or a rural area, but as Denmark is densely populated, it is never very far to a town!

How Do I Get There?

The au pair is  responsible for her own transportation to and from Denmark; it would be advisable to travel with an ‘open return’ ticket. Upon the au pair’s arrival in Denmark, most families will be able to arrange pick up for her from the airport or train station.

How Do I Apply?

You will need to provide the following:

1. Complete the application form

2. Four passport-sized photos of yourself and a photo-collage (best pictures of those of you with children, your family, doing sports, professional photos, etc.)

3. The passport-sized photos can be obtained from any photo booth, as found in most malls, or a passport office.

4. Two written references (childcare related ones are best).

5. Medical certificate from your doctor (brief note stating that you are in good health).

6. Dear Host Family letter (short letter about yourself, your experience with children, your hobbies, why you wish to au pair in Denmark, etc.)

7. Photocopy of diploma

8. A police check

Once your complete application has been received, a family will be selected which most suits your requirements; they will send you their details, a personal letter and perhaps a family photo. You may also receive a telephone call from the family, before you receive their details.
